If you've priced out a name-brand power tool recently — Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, RYOBI, RIDGID, Craftsman — you already know full retail adds up fast. A single tool can run well over $100, and a full kit can clear $400 or more before you've even started the job.
Here's how we sell the same name-brand tools at up to 65% off retail, and what that actually means for what ends up on our shelves.
How We Source Our Inventory
Tools For Less buys returned merchandise directly from major retailers like Home Depot and Costco. Every year, thousands of tools get returned in perfectly working condition — a customer bought the wrong size, changed their mind, or simply opened the box and never used it. Retailers can't resell those as new, so they move them through liquidation channels instead.
That's where we come in. We buy that returned inventory, bring it into our Sacramento store, and inspect every single item before it goes on our sales floor. Tools that pass inspection get sold to our customers at a real discount. Tools that don't pass inspection are sold separately, in bulk, by the pallet — they never reach an individual customer as a working tool.
The Brands You'll Actually Find In-Store
We're not a single-brand shop. Depending on what comes through our liquidation channels week to week, our shelves typically include:
- Milwaukee — M18 drills, impact drivers, saws, and accessories
- DeWalt — 20V MAX tools, combo kits, drills, saws, grinders
- Makita — 18V LXT platform tools and accessories
- RYOBI — reliable tools for DIY homeowners and weekend projects
- RIDGID — trusted by plumbers and pipefitters
- Craftsman — a longtime standard for hand tools and mechanics' sets
- Husky — hand tools, tool storage, and accessories
Because our inventory depends on what's been returned and processed that week, not every brand or model is in stock every day. That's the tradeoff for the pricing — we're not a catalog with guaranteed stock, we're a store with real, shifting inventory.
What "Up to 65% Off" Actually Looks Like
Pricing depends on the condition and current market value of each item, but as a general range:
- Power tools typically run 20–35% below suggested retail
- Hand tools and accessories see significant discounts as well
- Outdoor and lawn equipment comes from the same liquidation channels
- Industrial and commercial tools are available for small businesses and shops
We're also known for working with customers on price when it makes sense — not as a negotiating game, but because we'd rather move inventory at a fair price than let it sit on a shelf.
Our Quality Guarantee
"Inspected before sale" isn't a marketing phrase — it's the actual process every item goes through. Returns can range from a tool that was used once and brought back to one that was never opened. We test all of it. What works, we sell. What doesn't, never reaches an individual customer.
If something does slip through and there's an issue, we want to know. We stand behind what we sell and will work to make it right.
